Brinson cannot even bring himself to spell the word? Why, because it might offend someone? Anna used the word "dykes", not some hyphenated word. If you are going to quote her, quote her correctly. Give us a break. Grow up, Brinson.

Nothing stinks about the LPGA tour earning less than men. It is a different game. It is boring. For every Anna that can add appeal to the Tour, there is a Korean (pick one) who has no personality, uses their family to line-up shots behind the greens, are loathe to attend pro-ams and sponsor parties and on and on. Put out there a product that golfers want to see and we'll watch but what is being played now is not worth my time nor money. In the early 90's, the LPGA was approached by the PGA to do some joint events and advertising to help the women's tour. Two of the committee members thought it a great idea but the rest seemed to think the Tour could stand on its own. By the TV ratings and purses, they were wrong. Add to the mix, the Commissioner, a married man, openly dating a Tour member. Bizarre rules allowing his Tour girlfriend to review video after a tournament and decide if she should be penalized (while Beth Daniels had to play the final few holes not knowing what the decision would be, therefore, possibly effecting strategy.)

As for dyke comment, Anna is absolutely right. We are now going to sanitize the Dinah Shore tournament as something other than the "Lesbian Spring Break"? Sports Illustrated had a cover article about it. The tradition lived on long past Shores death. Many of those attending call themselves just that! (and, yes, the "N" word comes to mind...big deal).

J.
